Weird Marches: The Cast of NPCs

There are a few NPCs that make up a fairly important bit of background information for my ongoing Weird Marches game. They are becoming more important and so I wanted to write some brief description of them and what the PCs know about them so far. This ought to be helpful for my PCs and might interest you, dear reader, if you have enjoyed my Actual Play posts of this game.

The educated eye might notice that I take many of these character's images from a similar source and reuse one such source's name. To such an eye, I would say: yes I love that show and will not be shamed for my perfectly ethical theft.

Onwards then.

Tiberius Segundus

A small and scholarly man of a timid disposition. He is the guild master of the Whispershire Adventuring Guild though he is less of a leader and more of an accountant. He deals with all the coin that the guild requires to function and dealing with the politics that necessarily come with the scandal of having such a guild in a respectable Commonwealth City, though Whispershire is anything but respectable in the estimation of the rest of the fortress-cities of the Commonwealth.

The only thing he asks in return for his services and the use of his house (he transformed his personal abode into the Guild House) is that the guild members report to him what they have seen and bring him back some artifacts of the Weird Blue Yonder.

Apparently, his house stands on the same spot that another adventuring guild once upon a time. According to a mysterious source, that guild ended badly. The guild members suspect him of being a wizard, though they have seen no proof of any magical ability. He has some business with Madame Delila of House Delure. She seems to have something that belonged to his father, something that Tiberius wants badly.

Childermass

First name unknown. Guildmembers say he is hot. Childermass is Tiberius' manservant. He says that he dabbles in tarot. He is a tall and grizzled sort of character. He seems loyal to Segundus though he often tries to advise his master, regardless of the annoyance this causes Segundus.

During an exorcism upon Miss Melissa Penny in the guild hall, an event covered here, he expressed concerns with the exorcist, saying that he had seen something like the creature, possessing Miss Penny, that it wasn't something that had been and now is dead but instead something that never was.

As the exorcism progressed, he began to double over in pain. He aged before their eyes, rapidly growing older as Miss Penny spasmed. He passed out after Miss Penny killed the exorcist and escaped and so the party was unable to follow up with him.

It is evident that Childermass is more than meets the eye.

Archibald the Strange

A rogue sorcerer and obvious madman, Archibald the Strange has helped one Guildmember gain new arms, equipping a sickly Halfling with a pair of muscular human arms. He was called upon by Lord Westerman to help cure his wife of a sickness. The lord now blames Archibald for the state of madness that Lady Westerman is now suffering. Indeed Archibald took a considerable risk in summoning a faerie to call her back from the dead, paying a price that seemed inconsiderable at the time. Now Lady Westermane is cursed to witness all the cruelties of Billy Hemlock as she goes to dance at his court each night.

Despite his madness, he seems well-intentioned.

Figarus Cornswallow

A conman and charlatan, a very good one at that, at least for the ignorant peasantry of Whispershire. Figarus Cornswallow ran the House of Horrors and Mysteries both Amazing and Disturbing where his most successful exhibit was a strange flute said to be the key to the portal to Lost Yarghast. Guild members intimidated Mr. Cornswallow into giving up the flute, making an enemy of him. However, with the money gained from that venture, he bought himself a house and discovered an ancient tome within containing a spell that he used to create a new show. Phantoms and Phantasmagoria was a rousing success, gaining the attention of even the rich and powerful of the city.

It was at this show that Miss Penny was possessed. After Miss Penny's escape, they tracked down the residence that her grandfather bought with his Fermata Group, the residence that Mr. Cornswallow recently purchased. He has been haunted by voices and sounds in the night as long as he has possessed the book and welcomes the party's effort to rid him of it. Now he is trapped with them as Miss Penny looms outside the house.

He is known to associate with Sam Soot, a metallurgist with some interest in combustible materials.

Melissa Penny

A young woman who went to Figarus Cornswallow's Phantoms and Phantasmagoria show to ask her mother why she comitted suicide. During the course of this event, she was possessed by a strange shadow creature with needle-like fingers.

Upon being escorted back to the guild she spoke fo her grandfather, Samwise Grail, supposedly a wizard who had some disagreement with the Imperial Academy and was quite bad at violin. He disappeared and has not been seen since.

Melissa's possession has caused her eyes to become black with Void-stuff and she killed a very large exorcist with little effort. She currently hunts Figarus Conrswallow and several Guild Members.

PAW (Professionally Awesome Warriors)

Like these guys --> but more like cats or raccoons. Also cyborgs. They are an elite group of interstellar mercenaries who were trapped on this world by the Void breach in the Suan Hi region. More details covered here. They currently pilot the good ship Cloudskipper, ferrying the party to and from the dungeon where the breach is.

Wyrd and Nettie want to adopt Private.
