O'er Windswept Golden Fields: Gear and Character Detail Tables
As I mentioned in a comment below the original post, I have run a homemade game with a similar theme to OWGF where players played as children in a dark fairy tale world. One problem that I found while running this game is that it was hard to differentiate characters from each other as it is difficult sometimes to get into the headspace of a child for the purposes of building a character because I think a lot of players think of their character as having been crafted by the events in their past which of course kids don't have much of, so I thought up some Knave/Maze Rats style tables for randomizing character traits and starting gear (which should also give some clues as to the personality of the kid.) Some theoretic mechanics are mentioned but these are likely to change.
There were a lot of interesting comments on possible system ideas and I would love to get more because this is still something I am thinking about but feel like I don't have a super good answer for.

Thank you all for the positive feedback for the last post! I already have a book in the works called Into the Weird Blue Yonder so that is really what I ought to be working on, but I am a feedback addict so tell me if you want to see more of this as it develops.
LMAO :)
ReplyDeleteYes, i'd love to see more!
especially how you can "de-combat-ise" the rpg.. :)
I have a few ideas that are likely to make it into a post soon.
